June’s Nurse Spotlight: Aimee!

Allow me to introduce, Aimee!

Aimee is KPG Healthcare’s Nurse Spotlight of the Month for June. She is currently on assignment and living her California dreams in beautiful Los Angeles, but calls Louisville, Kentucky home

Before Aimee became a nurse, she was an assistant or an aide but saw more opportunity in nursing. “Working three days a week and having an abundance of specialties – there’s no reason for a nurse to be sad,” said Aimee. With more than a decade in healthcare, Aimee specializes in Medical-Surgical, Step Down, ICU, and others. She’s a jack-of-all-trades.

Although her career spans more than a decade, she still faces challenges in her practice. The biggest challenge she faces at work is handling the different perspectives, options, and attitude of patients, patient families, and doctors.

“You have to be assertive, be able to stand your ground,” said Aimee, “…and be nonchalant when going through the motions of a nurse.” Another challenge she faces is time management. She mentioned it is challenging to manage your time well enough to provide the same level of care for each patient. This shows that no matter the years of service you provide in your craft, you continue to face challenges.

With great challenges comes great relaxation. For Aimee, taking a long bath, heading to the beach, or having a nice glass of wine are just some ways she likes to unwind after a long shift. Since Aimee is originally from Kentucky, having access to the beach has been one of the many things she loved about LA.

Her transition to LA wouldn’t have been so smooth if it wasn’t for her recruiter, Tiko. Aimee says, “Tiko has been an extremely helpful recruiter to me and I am thankful to have such a supportive team watching my back!” Guaranteed, Tiko is equally as grateful to Aimee.

Aimee has been in love with LA so much that she has extended her current contract twice. Although, if she had a choice, she would love an assignment in either Bali or Dubai. “California is already a dream,” said Aimee, and we can’t argue with that!

From all of us here at KPG Healthcare, thank you for your continued dedication and hard work! Keep on hustlin’!

Aimee’s advice for new travel nurses:

  1. Get with a good company by doing research!
  2. No roommates! Unless you want to save $$$
  3. When you first arrive, Airbnb or use a hotel before finding an apartment or screening roommates.
  4. Review your pay package!! “Don’t make sense? GET OUT! Or you can DO THE MATH!”
