Trick-or-Treat!
Halloween is here and it is time to bring out the fun costumes, indulge in a crazy amount of sweets and of course, eat / drink pumpkin-flavored everything! *As we currently sip a Pumpkin Spiced Latte*
That being said, we thought we’d celebrate this spooktacular holiday by listing the top 5 awesome health benefits of eating pumpkin – because pumpkin bread and pumpkin seeds definitely have their perks!
Benefits of the Pumpkin:
- Boosts your Immune System
Pumpkin is packed with vitamins and nutrients that boost your immune system and keep you healthy. This fruit is high in Vitamin A and Vitamin C, which are both known to help strengthen your immune system and fight off infections. Eating pumpkin may be the key to staying healthy during the cold and flu season!
- Aids in Weight Loss
Consuming pumpkin should definitely be on your “can eat” list when looking to lose a few pounds. Pumpkin is a fiber-rich fruit, which keeps you fuller for longer, leading to less binge eating. It also contains only a few calories per serving. This fruit should be an important part of your diet if you’re looking to lose some weight before the holidays.
- Improves Your Vision
Pumpkins are extremely dense in Vitamin A and Vitamin A is great for optical health as it helps the retina absorb and process light. As we age, and our vision begins to deteriorate, this vitamin is especially crucial in our diets. Consuming pumpkin is perfect for keeping your vision sharp!
- Reduces the Risk of Cancers and Disease
Pumpkin is one of the best sources of beta-carotene. Beta-carotene is a very powerful antioxidant and it gives pumpkin its bright orange color. Once digested, your body turns beta-carotene into Vitamin A. Consuming this compound can protect against asthma and heart disease and may even reduce the risk of developing certain cancers.
- Promotes Healthy Skin
Last but not least, pumpkin is a fruit that promotes healthier and younger-looking skin. As mentioned above, pumpkin contains a tremendous source of beta-carotene. Not only does beta-carotene help protect against cancer and disease, but it also helps protect us from the sun’s wrinkle-causing UV rays!
Ok, we’re SOLD and have decided to pick up pumpkin everything after work.
